Quizás no conozcas a Ana Popovic, pero esta mujer nacida en Belgrado (ahora Serbia, en aquella época Yugoslavia) en 1976, está considerada como una de las mejores guitarristas de Europa, y ha sido nominada para la mayoría, y ha ganado muchos de ellos, de los más importantes premios de blues y jazz del planeta. Júntale a esto que Ana es una gran compositora y que esta es una de las razones por que la que se diferencia de otras mujeres guitarristas.
Fue su padre quien introduzco a Ana Popovic? al blues, ya que tenía en su casa una grandísima colección de discos. Ya con 19 años fundó su primera banda y traspasó las fronteras de su país.
Estudió guitarra en Holanda, donde se hizo popular en los circuitos de blues y de donde saltó a la vecina Alemania. Se hace muy popular gracias a su colaboración en el álbum tributo a Jimmy Hendrix, Blue Haze (2000), entre los que se encuentran Eric Burdon, Taj Mahal, Buddy Miles, .... En 2001 inició una gira por USA con su banda de entonces Hush.
Eso fue hace mucho, ahora Ana Popovic? participa en los mejores festivales de blues y jazz del planeta, y está absolutamente reconocida.
La música de Ana Popovic, demuestra que el blues puede pisar fuera de su territorio y traspasar sus límites y que tiene encanto para la audiencia de todas las edades. Cada uno de sus dos CD´s grabados en Ruf Records, “Hush” (2001) y “Comfort to the soul” (2003), presentan aparentemente una mezcla de blues, jazz, funk, soul y world music. A la edad de 28 años, ella estaba preparada para destacar en la escena del blues europeos , y es una de las pocas artistas europeas que han sido nominadas para el W.C. Handy Award en U.S.A. (Mejor artista nueva en su debut en 2003).
