Volviendo a sus raíces en Memphis en 1983, la cantante de blues Sandy Carroll pasó un año como cabeza de cartel en Lafayette's Corner, luego de varios años de tocar en otras partes del país, Lafayette's Corner, que estaba situada en la histórica Beale Street, donde nació Memphis blues.
Escribiendo y grabando los singles, "If You Got It" y "Memphis In May" en 1984, Sandy se asoció con Jim Dickinson, siete veces productor del año del capítulo de NARA Memphis. "Memphis In May" se convirtió en un éxito regional y el tema no oficial de las festividades anuales de Memphis In May. Sandy actuó en el Festival de Memphis en mayo con Memphis Horns (y el invitado especial Rufus Thomas) y también en el Beale Street Music Festival.
