Con su presencia en el escenario, atractiva y voz de contralto, no pasó mucho tiempo para Emily (cantante / compositora) a conseguir un lugar en la escena de Nashville de la música country.La más joven de cuatro hijos, nació en West Waterloo, Iowa, donde descubrió a Patsy Cline a una edad joven y comenzó a tomar lecciones de voz de un cantante de rock local. Inspirada para conseguir una carrera en la música country, comenzó a hacer viajes regulares a Nashville y ha trabajado para terminar la escuela secundaria lo mas rapido posible. Se graduó en 2000 y rápidamente se trasladó a Nashville, donde firmó un contrato de edición con el local de Time Warner Chapelly que llegó a oídos del productor Mike Dungan, quien la contrató para Capitol Records Nashville. Un EP auto-titulado de cuatro canciones fue lanzado a través de Internet a finales de 2007, y el single debut "Rocks in Your Shoes" llegó a las listas de Billboard de Country en 2008.
